Holy Mother
“Let nothing frighten and afflict you or trouble your heart … Am I not here, I, who am your mother? Are you not under my shadow?” -Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1531
Oh how I need this tender, empathic Mother-gaze (some days more than others). Like you, I’ve been wounded in this life. Did you know that the word “innocence” actually means “not wounded”? We have all lost our innocence along the way and the world seems to continually cause suffering. We seek comfort and reassurance.
It helps me greatly when I can feel that there is a Mother-Heart of compassion and undying love intrinsic in whatever concept of God or Universe I am currently considering. Somewhere out there (and in here) the Divine Feminine is beaming me everything I need to cope with this moment, this life. When I can rest in that awareness, I find peace.
“Holy Mother” by Eric Clapton, never fails to poignantly remind me of this ethereal, universal, maternal love available to us all. May you find your own tender connection to her love.
-Eric Clapton, Luciano Pavarotti, East London Gospel Choir - Holy Mother (Live)
“Holy Mother, where are you?
Tonight I feel broken in two.
I've seen the stars fall from the sky.
Holy mother, can't keep from crying.
Oh I need your help this time,
Get me through this lonely night.
Tell me please which way to turn
To find myself again.
Holy mother, hear my prayer,
Somehow I know you're still there.
Send me please some peace of mind;
Take away this pain.
I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait any longer.
I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait for you.
Holy mother, hear my cry,
I've cursed your name a thousand times.
I've felt the anger running through my soul;
All I need is a hand to hold.
Oh I feel the end has come,
No longer my legs will run.
You know I would rather be
In your arms tonight.
When my hands no longer play,
My voice is still, I fade away.
Holy mother, then I'll be
Lying in, safe within your arms.”
Eric Clapton
“We are called now to reinstate the feminine to her rightful place in our lives, in our relationships, and throughout creation. She belongs here and it’s time to celebrate her presence, draw on her strength, drink in her consolation, and let her guide us in repairing the world.” ~Mirabai Starr, Wild Mercy
Beautiful, Mel. I think of the pieta, and the coming of Easter amidst so much suffering.
What a beautiful description, I feel like I’m looking at her right now on this lovely spring morning ☺️
